Life at the State Fair

I attended my very first Texas State Fair yesterday.
Really it was my first state fair ever. My parents hated me and my siblings as children and would never took us to the fair. But after reviewing my bank account today I understand why.

Your first thought may be who goes to the fair on a random Wednesday? Well, my office decided to take a field trip to Dallas for the day. Turns out I'm not the only non-fair goer.

We started the day with some fried cake balls and fried chicken skins. Yes, no chicken just skin. The thought is kinda gross. How else do you start a fair experience? {Please keep in mind when I recap the outrageous amount of fried food consumed that there were 4 of us sharing}.

Before we ate too much we decided a ride on the ferris wheel was in order.
This was the only ride we went on. I've been on too many shady "i-think-im-going-to-die" carnival rides in my day and decided that the ferris wheel was enough.
Next we moved onto what I call the "healthy" part of the day. We had some corn in a cup {it was mixed with cheese and various other unhealthy things} and some cucumber sticks with cayenne pepper. I know seems random.

Before we went to, the highlight of the day, the dog shows we had the award winning deep fried buffalo chicken in a flap jack. It was good, but not crispy enough for our liking.

Anyway, back to the dogs. These were the highest jumping, farthest leaping, fastest catching dogs I'd ever seen.
I took top secret video. Training for Max starts on Saturday.

From there it was onto the petting zoo and the 1100 pound pig. None of the other animals in the petting zoo were as interesting or as huge.
And no fair is complete without a butter sculpture. Yes, that's butter. So disgusting.
Obviously, at this point it's time for more eating, fried green tomatoes, deep fried biscuits and gravy, and potato twisters.
After visiting the wine garden, the beer garden, various exhibits, and the car show we had to get ready for the main event. The pig races.
After eating a fried ball of saurkaut and fried cheesecake we watched the very short State Fair parade. But like all good things, they must come to an end. Luckily we squeezed in a fried mashed potato ball and fried snickers bar before calling it a night.
 Go big or go home.

PS. Yes, the diet already started.
